What stays, and what is removed
A useful cutout keeps the person, product, or object you care about and drops the room, sky, desk, or colored backdrop behind it. The result is not a blurred photo and not a solid color fill. It is the subject on a transparent background, so you can place it somewhere else.
JPG files cannot store transparency, so the download is a new PNG even when you started with a photo. If you specifically need a see-through file, the transparent background page explains how to check the result.
When a cutout is the right result
- A product that should sit on a white, colored, or marketplace background.
- A portrait you want to move onto a new backdrop.
- A logo or graphic that was photographed or exported on a plain background.
If the subject blends into the background, such as fine hair against a busy pattern or a glass object, look closely at the preview before you download. The model estimates the edge. It does not guarantee a flawless outline on every picture.
A direct way to do it
Use the tool above, or follow the longer checklist in how to remove a background from an image. Photos with people and products have their own notes on the photo background remover page.
