How to Make an Image Background Transparent
CutMyBG
Transparency means pixels with no color, so whatever sits behind the image shows through. CutMyBG creates that by removing the background and saving a PNG.
Why JPG cannot be the finished file
JPG stores opaque color only. If you need a see-through background, the finished file has to be a format that stores an alpha channel. CutMyBG downloads PNG, which design tools, browsers, and many shop platforms accept.
Create the transparent PNG
Open the tool, choose the image, and run background removal. In the preview, empty areas are drawn as a checkerboard so you can see them on a white page. Download PNG. The checkerboard is not in the file.
Confirm the file is really transparent
- Place the PNG on a colored rectangle in a design tool. The color should show around the subject.
- If you still see a white rectangle, the background was painted white rather than removed.
- A faint fringe of the old background color along the edge is a halo, not transparency. It is most visible when you move the subject onto a contrasting color.
White studio backgrounds are a separate case, covered in removing a white background.
